Ashley Herrera Yoga
I was first introduced to yoga after graduating from high school. I was no longer taking dance classes and felt something was missing from my life. A friend introduced me to my first hot yoga class, I loved that I got the satisfaction of showing up to a class with a group of like minded individuals.
Like everybody else, life happened and although my practice had not been consistent when significant changes in my life occurred I would always seem to turn to yoga. I felt a deeper connection to myself and just more relaxed.
While working in the corporate world I signed up for lunch yoga classes at my office. The yoga classes taught were very different from any class I'd ever attended. I learned to meditate, tried different poses, worked in partners, and began to see a difference in my productivity at work. Every class was different and exciting I couldn't wait until the next week.
I felt a strong urge to want to share the feeling I got after a yoga class to my colleagues and friends. In January 2015, I got the courage and support from my family to sign up to the Yoga Studio College of Canada school and received my 200 RYT certificate in April 2016. In 2017 I completed 50 hour Yin Yoga teacher training through Centered on Centre Ave Yoga and 20 hour Level 2 Yin Yoga teacher training with Stephanie Staniforth.
Currently teaching in NW Calgary at Thorncliffe Greenview Community Association.
I am excited to share my love and passion for yoga to each and every student, connecting mind and body.
Winter 2019 Registered Session
Yin Yoga is the practice of long held passive poses, which work to lengthen the deeper connective tissues in the body. The aim is to stress the ligaments, bones, joints and fascia tissues that surround and go through our entire body; which will improve flexibility in your hips and lower spine.
The long held poses can help balance the Chi flow in your body, while also lead to a more contemplative, non-reactive quality of mind. If you are looking to relax, slow down and stretch, or simply want to deepen your practice through mindfulness techniques, this is the perfect class to attend.
Props including blocks, sit cushions, bolsters, straps and blankets will be provided.
